On Sunday night TV3 ran a story about Afghanistan and its famous rugs. The students studying The Kite Runner should view the story as it will help them to understand some of Afghanistan’s very troubled history.

A new kind of collectable art causing a stir in the US has made its way here.
War rugs have been around since the 1980s when Afghani rug makers began weaving images of war into rugs for Russian soldiers.
But since the September 11 terror attacks Americans have started scouring markets and the internet for the rugs and now the trend has reached New Zealand.
