Timeless Top Ten

I have just read the latest NZ Woman’s Weekly (tragic but true) and the book reviewer Sarah Kate Lynch gave her Timeless Top Ten booklist. Her list is:

  1. Angela’s Ashes
  2. Bridget Jones’s Diary
  3. Chocolat
  4. The Wind in the Willows
  5. The Denniston Rose
  6. The Edmonds Cookery Book
  7. The Firm
  8. The Horse Whisperer
  9. The Lovely Bones
  10. The Shipping News

I would only put one of her choices on my list (prize to the first one of you who can guess which one*) – what would be on your list? Post your top ten reads (serious lists only!) and I will raid my prize hamper for all genuine responses.

*Hint -the Edmonds book isn’t a hint.

Thank you all for your booklists. I am very pleased to see the great texts that you have chosen. Who says young people don’t read! If you guys are reading Orwell, Tolkien etc as well as Clarkson and Bryson in Year 10 all bodes well for the future. Speaking of Bryson and Clarkson, I have quite a collection if anybody wants to borrow a book. Good guesses at my booklist text but no correct answers yet. I did enjoy Bridget Jones though!

  10. Alastair on

I would have picked the Shipping News. The movie isn’t close to the book. It changed from British to American didn’t it?

  11. ncowie on

You are right Alastair. I love that book! The film was a disappointment. Kevin Spacey as Quoyle? Even Judi Dench couldn’t save it!
