Making a Persuasive Speech

The slideshow gives you some tips on how to deliver a persuausive speech. All Year 12 students will deliver an oral presentation this year and the first task will be to deliver a persuausive speech.

I have an expanded version of this slideshow that includes video that I will add to the Year 12 wikis.

Year 9 Montage

To show more of the work created by Year Nine students for their Roald Dahl study I have made a short video.

‘Boy’ Boardgames

The Year Nine students had a lot of fun playing the boardgames that they created from their study of Roald Dahl’s ‘Boy’. Bridget and Kelsi from Year 13 popped in to trial the games.

The College Herald

222.jpg

Now’s your chance to let it all out!

Are you a budding cartoonist, critic, artist, reporter, designer, writer or photographer? Get your work into New Zealand’s biggest daily paper with The College Herald.

They are looking to feature work from as wide a range of people as possible. All ages, skills and viewpoints are welcome. It could be something you did for a class assignment ages ago, or it could be something you’ve created specially for The College Herald.

This year they are encouraging students to submit work online - though you may still submit by mail if you wish.

Either way, it’s very important that an English teacher authorises each individual student entry. When you enter online, your entry automatically gets forwarded to your English teacher for approval. If you are entering by mail, please ensure that your teacher’s name, faculty and email address is supplied on the entry form. Every mailed entry form must be signed by the teacher concerned.

They’re looking for anything that says what you want to say. This could include:

Articles, Letters to the editor, Photographs, Cartoons, Interviews, Poetry, Music reviews, Film and TV reviews, Investigative journalism, Painting, Collages, or Graphic design.

Film Static Images

my-glogs.jpg

I have received nearly all of your film static images but one or two of you still need to finish them off. The flash files and some of the posters with added sound and video are on display on moodle. On the wikispaces site I have put most of the posters. Please see me if you have any problems.

Online Cartoons

If you enjoy making cartoons you will love Bitstrips. Bitstrips allows you to make cartoon strips using characters that you create. You can even make yourself into an avatar and you can be the star of your own comic strips. I found it really easy to use and I made the cartoon above for my Year 12 students.

Schindler Images

The last of the Schindler images have been finished and they are fantastic. A big thank you to the Year 12 students who created them, I really appreciate the time and effort that you put into them. The image above is from Annaliese and I have put it on the KKC creations wiki. The wiki also has images from the Year 13 film study. The Schindler images made in flash can be found on moodle.

Polly’s Poster

My dumpr

This is Polly’s Romeo and Juliet image. It has been compressed a little when I uploaded it but you can still see how well she matched her images and her quote. The entire quote reads “Never was a story of more woe, than this of Juliet and her Romeo.”

Was it for this the clay grew tall?

The image above was Sophie’s original concept to show the theme of Wilfred Owen’s poem Futility. She developed it and added text to create an interesting and effective image. Andrew also produced an image that was derived from his understanding of Futility and he too used a cross symbolically.
