Backstage @Cromwell College Production

Cromwell College’s production this year was ‘Alice in Wonderland’ and students from Year 7 to Year 13 put on a brilliant and very well received show. The students performed to capacity crowds and they really enjoyed themselves. Lots of fun was to be found backstage and it was a fantastic experience helping with the make-up. I was able to take a few photos of what went on behind the stage doors and I am sharing them here:

A few shots of our wonderful griffin – he was a real crowd favourite!

The main cast had to spend a lot of time in hair and make-up but it was worth it.

Year 10 Debate

It is debating season in these parts and today our newly formed Year 10 debating team went to Roxburgh. It was the boys’ first go and they were keen but a little nervous. We were early so took the time to meet a few of the locals…

Rox1

After this little interlude we headed to the venue and it was all on. The boys were prepared and it was an entertaining and well researched debate. The boys took out the match and they were pleased with their win.

It was a great afternoon and we even had time for a couple of post-debate shots before heading home!

Gavin Bishop Visit

collagegavin

On Friday, Year 8 students were treated to a visit from Gavin Bishop. Gavin writes and illustrates children’s books full-time. Books, stories and pictures have provided a life-long fascination for him, particularly children’s picture books. Gavin loves that  their intertwined rhythms of pictures and words combine to tell a story in an often deceptively simple way.

The students really enjoyed Gavin’s visit and they were lucky enough to have his new book in manuscript form shared with them. It was a great day!

Paul Ubana Jones

We were lucky enough to have Paul Ubana Jones at school today. Paul told us about his personal musical influences which included Bob Dylan. He was just 13 when he saw Dylan perform with his band The Hawks at the Royal Albert Hall in 1965. Paul said that he had only received his first guitar two years before and the experience “changed my life”. After seeing Dylan perform he realised, “this is what I wanted to do with my life and thanks to Bob Dylan I then pursued the rigorous road of music.”
